Wael Shawky’s production is a large-scale music and theatre performance based on the French epic poem La Chanson de Roland. Translated into classical Arabic, the work was brought to life by 20 fidjeri singers and musicians from the UAE and Bahrain, who performed in the traditional style of Arabian Gulf pearl divers.
